About Wuqing

As one of the 18 districts and counties under Tianjin, Wuqing was set up at first in West Han Dynasty and called Quanzhou, also Yongyang, renamed as Wuqing in AD 742 in Tang Dynasty, and changed into district from county in 2000. Covering 1574 km2, the district has a population of 830,000.

Wuqing enjoys unique location advantage, and has being called “Corridor of Beijing and Tianjin”. It is between Beijng and Tianjin, adjacent to Beijing at north and to Hebei Province at west and northeast. Located on East Development Belt of greater Beijing city space development strategy planning “Two Axis and Two Belts”, and together with Tianjin Binhai New Area on Tianjin-Binhai Integrated Development Axle of Tianjin urban development axle, Wuqing has great potential for development. Yangcun in district center is 71 km away from urban Beijing, 90 km away from Capital International Airport, 50 km away from the Second Capital Airport in planning, 13 km away from urban Tianjin, 71 km away from Tianjin Port and 35 km away from Tianjin Binhai International Airport.

Wuqing possesses convenient and fast modern transport system. Within the district there are 5 expressways: Beijing-Tianjin-Tanggu, Beijing-Tianjin, Beijing-Shanghai, Tianjin-Baoding and Tianjin-Ji County; 12 expressway entrances and exits; Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway and one intermediate stop from which you can arrive in Beijing in 19 minutes and Tianjin in 10 minutes; Beijing-Shanhaiguan Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway and Tianjin-Ji County Railway, and 7 passenger and freight stations. In recent years, based on state-level expressways and railways, Wuqing has realized the “nine vertical and nine horizontal roads” network construction with density of roads up to 135 km/100 km2. Within 15 minutes of drive in any village and street, you can find expressway entrance and arrive in Beijing or Tianjin in half an hour. 


 

City function of Wuqing is continuously improved. There has been 41-km2 area completed in central district, and there is population of 300,000. It is planned there will be 86-km2 area with population of 600,000 by 2020, and 142-km2 area with population of 1 million in the long term. The infrastructures rank advanced in Northern China. Basic security system, including three water sources such as Luanhe River water, northern groundwater and Tianjin running water, two power grids such as North of China Grid and Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Grid and two gas sources such as Shaanxi Gas and North China Gas, has been set up. And there are perfect facilities for education, medical care, culture, business, and so on.  

Wuqing is characterized by water and green ecology. In Wuqing, there is 62 km of Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal which has thousands of years of history, 11 watercourses higher than second level, 30% forest coverage rate, and the largest Dahuangpu Wetland Nature Reserve of 112 km2 in North of China, so it has unique ecological environment advantage compared with other places between Beijing and Tianjin.

Wuqing owns strong foundation for industry development. The proportion of the three major industries is 12.5:49:38.5. For agriculture, there are two leading industries: cow and green vegetable. With 62,000 cattle, Wuqing absorbed a batch of leading enterprises including Yili, Wahaha and Wondersun, which makes it rank top 20 in national diary industry. With 220,000 mu of green vegetable planting area, Wuqing is identified as national green agricultural products demonstration district. For industry, there are five hi-tech industries formed: electronic information, new materials, mechanical manufacturing, bio-medicine and automobile & parts, accounting for over 40% of industry added value. Wuqing enjoys two major traditional industries: annual production of bicycles up to 12 million which is 1/10 of the national total production and sales quantity, and of carpet up to 130 million square feet which is 10% of the national production quantity and over 40% of the national export quantity. There is state-level Hi-tech Industry Park Wuqing Development Area, with 30 km2 planned area and 15 km2 of it has been finished. And almost 1000 enterprises have settled in the area, among which, 14 are the world top 500, with annual tax revenue up to RMB 3 billion Yuan. Four industry parks have been included in Tianjin Key Demonstration Parks, with 50 km2 planning area. For service industry, two leading industries such as modern trade & business and modern logistics are formed, and added value realized by storage & transportation and wholesale & retail trade accounts for over 50% in the tertiary industry.

Wuqing possesses fast and efficient service environment. There is a principal of “serving others equals to developing ourselves”. There is Wuqing Customs, by which direct customs clearance can be realized; there is Commodity Inspection Wuqing Office, by which all inspection items of Tianjin Inspection & Quarantine Bureau can be completed; there is Administrative License Service Center, and all examination and approval function departments enter the area, which can provide one-stop official business and service. For general approval projects, examination and approval procedures can be finished within 30 weekdays, and for major projects, green path will be set up to provide special services.

Economy in Wuqing becomes stronger and stronger. In 2009, gross product in the district can be 24 billion Yuan RMB, and fiscal revenue 7 billion Yuan RMB while in 2008, the figures were 20 and 5.6 billion Yuan RMB respectively, with year-on-year increase of 20% and 25%. Wuqing ranks first among all districts and counties in Tianjin in comprehensive strength.

As Tianjin Binhai New Area is included into national development strategy, location, transport advantage and development potential of Wuqing are more and more obvious. Tianjin Municipal Committee and Tianjin Government pay much importance to Wuqing development. In 2008, Tianjin Municipal Government approved the new general planning for urban development of Wuqing and positioned Wuqing to be the new city on the Beijing-Binhai Integrated Development Axle, hi-tech industry base, modern logistics base and eco-livable city.
